Children Now Statement on the Master Plan for Early Learning and Care

Ted Lempert, President, Children Now, issued the following statement in response to the release of the Master Plan for Early Learning and Care:

“The long-awaited Master Plan was to provide a specific financial roadmap for California to ensure dramatically expanded access to child care and universal preschool. The child care system, which is critical to the state’s recovery in 2021 and our collective future, was already in crisis, and has been pushed to the brink by the COVID-19 pandemic. Rather than outlining the significant new state and other public investments that are desperately needed to fulfill the plan, the most apparent specific funding recommendation is to continue an unsustainable financial burden on families with additional fees.”
