Early Childhood

The first years of a kid’s life build the foundation for everything that follows – their health, mind, and emotional well-being. We work to ensure all families with young kids get the essential care and assistance they need from the prenatal stage through their early learning years. We strive for California to implement a child care system that’s universal for all families, expand home visiting programs and empower caregivers, and improve medical and mental health care access so every child is provided a pathway of support that leads to their own prosperous future.

A Statewide Approach to Strengthen Home Visiting in California

To ensure the maximization of existing home visiting resources, state departments should create a shared vision with local partners that can be implemented in ways that elevate the strength of and increase the capacity of providers, who are well equipped to reach families.

Letters to the Editor: Child care in California is expensive enough. Will we allow it to get even worse?

Child care already takes up about one-fifth of a median family’s income in California. With our state’s high cost of living, do we really expect them to shoulder any more sudden costs without dire consequences?
