A Resource Guide to Medi-Cal Managed Care Monitoring and Oversight

The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is the agency responsible for administering, overseeing, and enforcing the contracts and policies that dictate the expectations and responsibilities of Medi-Cal managed care plans (MCPs) for the roughly 10.5 million Californians, including nearly 5 million children, enrolled in a Medi-Cal managed care plan. This resource is a guide for Medi-Cal advocates and stakeholders that describes DHCS’ Medi-Cal managed care compliance monitoring components, categorized in four monitoring areas: provider networks; potential access to care; realized access to care; and administrative & financial accountability.
