Children Now Releases State Legislative Candidates’ Responses to Kids’ Questionnaire
Candidates were asked to address critical issues, including early childhood, health, child welfare, and education

Oakland, CAToday, Children Now released responses to its state legislative candidate questionnaire.

“Too often, interest group candidate questionnaires are kept secret, and used to secure endorsements and contributions,” said Children Now President Ted Lempert. “We knew that the public nature of our process might prevent some candidates from responding, but we wanted to give candidates the opportunity to transparently share their views with the public on the critical issues facing our state’s kids.”

The questionnaire, which consisted of 10 open-ended questions, was sent to all candidates for State Assembly and Senate seats. The questions covered a broad range of issues that impact kids including education, childcare, mental health, healthcare access, and child welfare.

“We are encouraged by the responses that we received and are confident that this will serve as an important reminder to all our elected officials that kids must be the state’s number one priority” Lempert said.
