Children Now Statement on Gov. Brown’s Proposed 2018-19 Budget:

OAKLAND, CA—Children Now President Ted Lempert issued the following statement on Gov. Brown’s proposed 2018-19 budget:

"We applaud the targeted investments for kids in the proposed budget, including for home visiting and support for teachers and districts, but overall the plan misses an opportunity. The recent national focus on California being a high tax state highlights our failing to be a high investment state when it comes to early childhood, K-12, higher education and other needed supports for kids. With strong state revenues, the first call on all new available dollars should go towards re-setting our priorities and putting kids – and our collective future – first."
