Keeping Kids Smiling: How Healthy Teeth Lead to School Success

Thank you to our members who joined our webinar focused on early childhood oral health earlier this month! We heard from Dr. Bahar Amanzadeh, Care Coordinator at UCSF California Oral Health Technical Assistance Center, Rhoda Howell-Gonzalez, Oral Health Consultant at Fresno County Department of Public Health, and Eileen Espejo, Senior Managing Director of Health at Children Now. Our panelists presented on the Kindergarten Oral Health Assessment (KOHA) and the important role it plays in improving young children’s school readiness, academic achievement, and overall health. They also shared tips for how you can get involved with your county’s oral health improvement plans. As Eileen mentioned during the webinar, there is a current bill moving through the Assembly (Assembly Bill 2630) aimed at extending the Oral Health Assessment to include Transitional Kindergarteners. Click here to learn more about that bill.

You can access a link to the webinar PowerPoint here.
