Kristi Schutjer-ManceChief Operating Officer and General Counsel

    Ms. Schutjer-Mance is responsible for Children Now’s day-to-day operations and for policy project management. She also leads policy development for issues that intersect the media, education and health policy landscape, including integrated services and obesity. She oversees Children Now research projects and coordinates foundation proposal development and reporting between the policy and marketing teams. She also supervises finance and human resource work.

    Prior to joining Children Now, Ms. Schutjer-Mance directed the Mills College Institute for Civic Leadership, a research and educational institute designed to promote the civic purposes of higher education and to advance the social justice and leadership capacities and commitments of women and girls. Ms. Schutjer-Mance also practiced law for three years as an Associate at Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison in San Francisco and has worked and volunteered extensively in the areas of youth development, education, and women’s and children’s rights. She was selected as a Kellogg Fellow in Children’s Advocacy and worked on children’s rights with Lawyers for Human Rights in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. For five years, she has co-led teams of lawyers in working with high school students in mock trial programs in San Francisco and Oakland. She also volunteers as a kayak guide for an outdoor program for underserved youth and people with disabilities.

    She holds a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, an M.T.S. in Religion and American culture from Harvard University Divinity School, and a B.A. in English and political science from the University of California, Berkeley.
