568 Pro-Kid Organizations Sign-on To Protect Health Care for Kids
This week, 568 organizations and businesses from across California joined together to urge congress to protect health care for California’s 5.6 million children who rely on coverage through Medi-Cal, the state’s health coverage program financed by Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
In California, CHIP funds provide affordable, comprehensive, child appropriate coverage for children up to 266 percent of the federal poverty level ($65,436 a year for a family of four). Further, it provides an absolutely critical tool in combatting California’s child poverty, which is the highest in the nation, while helping stabilize our state budget.
In fact, CHIP funds are used to finance coverage for roughly one-quarter of children enrolled in Medi-Cal. Absent any new funding, California may exhaust all of its currently available CHIP funding by January 2018.
With the September 30th deadline looming on the horizon, we are so greatful for the strong show of support that came together to protect health care access for our most vulnerable children. Thank you for your commitment to our kids.
