California Endowment VP Joins Children Now’s Leadership

Prominent Statewide Leader and Community Organizer Comes Onboard this Month

July 13, 2015

OAKLAND, CA — Children Now is pleased to announce the hiring of Jim Keddy as Vice President. Keddy comes to Children Now from The California Endowment, where he worked since 2011 as Vice President and Chief Learning Officer. From 2009-2011 Keddy served as the Director of Healthy Communities, North at the Endowment.

As a member of the Endowment’s leadership team, Keddy was recognized for his expertise in the areas of learning, strategic planning, organizational development and youth and adult organizing. Previously, Keddy was state director of the faith-based community organizing network PICO California. Keddy also served as senior staff member of the PICO National Network and led several local organizing efforts throughout California.

At Children Now Keddy will call on his 20-plus years’ experience in community organizing to oversee the organization’s local efforts and the expansion of The Children’s Movement of California. Keddy joins a team already leading the state in children’s public policy research, development, communications and advocacy, and says he looks forward to advancing their work in communities across California.

"I'm thrilled to join the team at Children Now, an organization I have long admired for its smart and bold advocacy on behalf of California's kids,” he said. “I'm looking forward to helping lead efforts to ensure all kids have access to a great education and health care, and improving the infrastructure for families. This is a golden moment and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Children Now President Ted Lempert said Keddy will strengthen the organization’s leadership team, and coordinate on-the-ground support for children’s advocacy that Children Now is providing in local communities across the state.

“Jim has an exceptional track record of meaningfully engaging communities and running successful grassroots policy campaigns on issues critical to kids’ well-being,” he said. “We’re delighted that he is coming to Children Now to enhance our game-changing children’s advocacy model.”
