Educationally/Insufficient? An Analysis of the Availability & Educational Quality of Children's E/I Programming

On November 12, 2008, Children Now hosted a national briefing in Washington, D.C., to release its new report, Educationally/Insufficient? An Analysis of the Availability & Educational Quality of Children's E/I Programming. The briefing brought together some of the nation’s leading children’s policymakers, academics and advocates to discuss the report's findings and address the following questions:

  • How much time do broadcasters commit to E/I programming?
  • How likely are children to find these shows during the days and times they watch TV?
  • How educational are broadcasters’ E/I shows and what types of lessons do they teach?
  • What are some of the creative and economic challenges to providing quality E/I programming?
  • Can policy and/or industry changes be implemented to improve the educational value of E/I shows?
