Education

Preschool and Child Care
Children's cognitive and social development happens most rapidly in their earliest years: 90% of brain development occurs before they turn five. Positive, stimulating experiences and relationships in children's earliest years, starting at birth, are critical building blocks to later success in school and in life.

After School
In 2002, California voters approved a ballot measure that would more than triple the amount of state money going to after school programs. We are working to make sure that these dollars reach the children who need these programs most, and that they support safe, enriching, and fun after school programs. Through research and advocacy, we are working with after school practitioners and organizations to ensure that the state's publicly funded after school programs meet the needs of all communities in California.

K-12 Education
Children Now advocates for excellence in K-12 public education for every child. The governor’s proposed budget fails to make a critical investment in our education system, further reducing children’s access to a high quality education which we know helps them reach their goals and become productive members of society. Children Now is making efforts to ensure every child has access to a good education.
