I was pregnant with my fourth child and on family leave from my clerical job when my husband Luis was laid off from his job as an electrician.
Our three oldest children have asthma and they must take daily asthma medications, and have life-saving bronchodilators close at hand for emergencies. Health insurance is very, very important for our family.
When the children’s health insurance came from Luis’ employer-sponsored provider, the premiums were so high we could barely pay the rent or the other bills. I started looking around for more affordable insurance and found that we qualified for Healthy Families. Since we enrolled the kids, it has taken a lot of pressure off our monthly bills. We consider ourselves very lucky that there is an affordable insurance option out there that helps hard working people and their families stay healthy and happy.
