Eligibility & Application Information
Medi-Cal provides comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for low-income, uninsured children. Medi-Cal is California’s public health insurance for low-income children and families.
Who is Eligible?
Children are eligible if they meet the following age and income levels.
|Birth to 1 year|
(and pregnant women)
|At or below 200% of FPL*|
|1 to 6 years||At or below 133% of FPL|
|6 to 19 years||At or below 100% of FPL|
|19 to 21 years||At or below 92% of FPL|
Parents are eligible if their family income is at or below 100% of FPL* and meet the resource limit. “Resources” are things a family owns, such as property, and savings and checking accounts.
Other eligibility requirements:
- Must be residents of California.
- Must be U.S. citizens or qualified immigrants (immigrants that don’t qualify for full-scope Medi-Cal may be eligible for emergency or pregnancy-related only Medi-Cal). Getting Medi-Cal will not affect a family’s immigration status by making them a “public charge.”
How much does it cost?
Medi-Cal for children and families is free. Families may be eligible for share-of-cost Medi-Cal if their incomes are higher than the Medi-Cal income guidelines. Children may be eligible for Healthy Families if their incomes are higher than the Medi-Cal income guidelines. Visit their website for more information about Medi-Cal.
