Overview

Children Now is a national organization for people who care about children and want to ensure that they are the top public policy priority.

Investing in Children
Our country’s public investments have shifted significantly towards older generations. The United States has the highest child poverty rate among western industrialized nations, yet children rank at the top of public opinion polls. Children Now seeks to bridge the gap between public will and public policies.

A Comprehensive Voice for Children
Since 1988, Children Now has championed the needs of children with a successful combination of research and advocacy. Children Now is unique in its bi-partisan, strategic advocacy on behalf of the whole child:

Media
The Children & the Media Program seeks a positive media environment for children, especially given that they spend more time with media than with any other activity except sleeping.

Health
Children Now’s Health Policy Program fights to ensure that all children have access to high-quality affordable health care, including oral care.

Education and Child Care
Children Now’s Education and Child Care Program works to improve access to quality early care, preschool and after-school programs and advocates for excellence in K-12 public education for every child.

Talking With Kids
Our Talking With Kids campaign helps parents talk with their kids about tough issues like sex, AIDS, violence, drugs and alcohol.

Trusted Research
Children Now is often sought after by policy-makers, the media, business leaders, academics and parents for our high-quality research and sharp analysis on the full spectrum of matters affecting children. We pioneered an annual Report Card on the status of California’s children--a publication that has been duplicated in every state, in addition to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. And our Fall Colors reports are the most comprehensive research studies on prime time television diversity.
